Due to a job change we have decided to upgrade to a more gas
efficient commuter vehicle. The Jimmy
has recently become a salvage title, the insurance decided to “technically”
total it after a minor accident. That
was a few months ago, and I have been driving it since.
A local salvage/body shop quoted me $500 to fix the tailgate
and rear window lock (it is permanently shut at the moment).
THIS IS A SALVAGE TITLE
Plusses:
- · Non-smoker
- · Has had regular oil changes
- · Records of repair while in my ownership
- · Regular undercarriage washes during winter
- · 3 Cigarette adapters
- · retractable tonneau cover
- · Roof Rack
- · Trailer hitch connection
- · Child locks
- · Comes with mats – rubber in front, carpet in back
- · Comes with cassette adapter – sometimes you have to take the cassette part out and blow on it
- · Detailed by owner
- · only been in one minor accident
Things I know work:
- · Engine
- · Heater
- · Air conditioning
- · Cruise Control
- · Automatic lights
- · Auto-Dimming Rear View Mirror
- · Windshield wipers
- · Windshield sprayer
- · Gas level sensor/warning light
- · All the driving and Interior lights, and blinker sound
- · Power Locks on all doors
- · Power windows – can stick if it becomes extremely cold
- · Electronic controls on driver’s door for all windows and locks
- · Driver’s power seat adjustments
- · 4 wheel drive – sometimes needs to be in park to get it to swap
- · Warning noise if you leave your keys in the ignition and open the door
- · AM/FM radio
- · Speakers – not blown and all work
- · Cigarette adapters
- · External temperature display with compass
- · Lights on vanity mirrors
- · Back seats fold down
Things that don’t work – it is 18 years old:
- · Accident damage: Tailgate, rear wiper, rear bumper, the lock on the trunk window, tailgate sensor makes the dome light stay on as if “a door is open”, there is a dome override button that I leave on and that overrides that problem – though it does stop radio playing after you turn the engine off.
- · We are unsure of how much exhaust fumes get in through the damaged tailgate, so have been driving with the windows down or the air blowing at full blast. Can be solved by replacing tailgate.
- · Front passenger seat does not tilt back
- · Both side-view mirror electric motors don’t work, but can be adjusted manually
- · Front passenger window control does not work, but the lock control does
- · Right side-view mirror is a bit loose, bounces more than normal
- · The check engine light is on because the catalytic converter sensor is bad, we had the converter replaced in the last 2 years
- · Vanity mirror covers are no longer attached or are loose; if the second visor is folded down with the main visor, it keeps the vanity covers from sliding off and turning the vanity lights on.
- · During bad rain the driver’s door leaks a few drops on the foot well
- · Moisture occasionally gets in the gas tank, but can be solved by putting in a bottle of Iso-Heat
- · Squeaky suspension
Serious buyers may arrange a test drive; a valid Driver’s Licenses
must be presented.
